We need to work to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in Ward 11 and across the City of Minneapolis.

We need to support the mission and vision for our new department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and create a strategic plan to move that mission and vision forward. We should consult with organizational experts on the creation of a strategic plan for the new department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to set the new department up for success.

We need to evaluate all our work through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We need to update, and expand upon our race, equity, and inclusion analysis, and ensure that such analysis is done enterprise wide.

While serving as Council Member for Ward 11…

  • We created the new department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

  • We approved the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Phase 2 funding which includes funding for:

    • The Clyde Bellecourt Urban Indigenous Legacy Initiative to address the extreme disparities for our urban indigenous communities

    • A Gender-Neutral Bathroom Program to encourage City of Minneapolis establishments to make their single-stall restrooms gender-neutral

    • Black Business Week which encourages black business ownership in the City of Minneapolis

    • Mental Health Support for City Staff

    • The expansion of the City of Minneapolis’s cultural and community media vendors/partners

  • We approved the City of Minneapolis’s 2023 Budget which includes funding for:

    • The development of a public-facing, comprehensive, holistic directory of providers who offer affirming services to LGBTQ+ communities and communities with HIV

    • A full-time-employee to support equity work related to sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity

    • The expansion of immigration-related services

    • A first-of-its-kind, anti-racism training for all city staff

    • Black Business Week which encourages black business ownership in the City of Minneapolis

    • The expansion of technical support and management of our Strategic Racial Equity Action Plan and Racial Equity Impact Analyses

    • The Trans Equity Summit

  • I created a Black/African American Community Group in Ward 11 to build relationships with Black/African American Ward 11 neighbors.

  • I will support the mission and vision for our new department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and create a strategic plan to move that mission and vision forward. 

  • I will push the City of Minneapolis to consult with organizational experts on the creation of a strategic plan for the new department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging to set the new department up for success.

  • I will support the rollout of our new Minneapolis Performance Management Program.

  • I will push the City Council, and Mayor to move to Outcome Based Budgeting - which is a budget process that aligns resources with results.
